The val-IDA-te pilot studies are part of DatAUB, and the component designed to evaluate the ability of the Flo app to identify individuals at increased risk for the presence of iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA) by virtue of the perceived volume of menstrual bleeding. The general approach is outlined in the three figures in this section and will be summarized here
Conceptually, val-IDA-te is designed to recruit individuals who have Flo-based evidence of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) and normal volume menstrual bleeding, based on data obtained for at least two months. The participants are consented and evaluated for evidence of HMB using other validated surveys and tested for the presence of ID and anemia with blood tests. Part of the consent allows for uploading of the results of the evaluation to Flo's protected operational database.
